Love Letter

Dear First Lady

I know tradition has it that on this morning I place cards   Happy Anniversary cards on your breakfast tray.  But things are somewhat mixed up.  I substituted a gift & delivered it a few weeks ago.

Still this is the day, the day that marks 31 years of such happiness as comes to few men.  I told you once that it was like an adolescents dream of what marriage should be like.  That hasn’t changed.

You know I love the ranch but these last two days made it plain I only love it when you are there.  Come to think of it that’s true of every place & every time.  When you aren’t there I’m no place, just lost in time & space.

I more than love you, I’m not whole without you.  You are life itself to me.  When you are gone I’m waiting for you to return so I can start living again.

Happy Anniversary & thank you for 31 wonderful years.

I love you

Your Grateful Husband

This letter was received… mail….on March 4, 1983… by First Lady Nancy Reagan.

He wrote it while aboard Air Force One, and was one of many letters he sent to her when he was away.

There is nothing better than receiving a letter. I do not mean an email, text, Skype, video feed, or tweet. I am talking about walking to your mailbox and discovering a hand written, stamp addressed envelope with your name on it. This could be from a lover, a friend, a relative, or someone you have lost touch with over the years. It could say one sentence….. “I Miss You”….or it could be 5 pages of something fascinating that happened to you. It doesn’t matter. What is special is that someone took the time to sit down and write to YOU.

In this day an age, with technology at an all time high, we should be more open minded to traditions of the past. There are so many wonderful things to do to express your feelings for one another.

Go on a picnic. pack some sandwhiches, an apple ,and some wine.  Go and sit on a peer….. or in a forest. Leave the phone at home and  go experience nature.

Pick someone a flower. Just one flower…and leave it on their doorstep. No UPS or FTD…..YOU.

Make someone a CD. A compolation of all the songs that remind you of that person and send it to them.

Get out of your box and just do something personal.

Today……. I am going to write someone a letter. I am going to get some neat stationary, and maybe a feather pen if I am feeling frisky :), and I am going to write a letter to someone I care about. Maybe if I am lucky…… I will get one in return.

Life Is Too Short….Be Personal

  1. Well said. What a reward receiving a letter from someone who took the time to write it by hand.
